My good friend has been tested for multiple sclerosis and is waiting for a final diagnosis. What can you tell me about this disease?

Answer: 

Most of us perform the activities of daily living without a second thought. But for someone with a movement disorder such as multiple sclerosis, even the easiest daily living task can be challenging — or even dangerous.

MS is an immune-mediated disease in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks myelin in the central nervous system. In multiple sclerosis, damage to the myelin — and to the nerve fibers themselves — interferes with transmission of nerve signals between the brain and spinal cord and other parts of the body.
