Rising hepatitis C cases are linked with the heroin epidemic.
Laura Temple planned to go to college, the 43-year-old Marion resident remembers fondly. She wanted to be a psychiatrist back when she was a straight-A high school student, a time filled with endless possibilities.
That all changed when she became addicted to opiates and other drugs, a problem that would follow her through most of her adult life.
“I had started using at an early age and I became heavily addicted for 25 years,” she said.
Now a recovering addict with seven months of clean living under her belt, Temple is slowly picking up the pieces of her life, shattered by prolonged heroin and cocaine use.
She now faces new challenges, not only with staying clean, but dealing with a health condition that continues to make her a victim of the heroin epidemic.
