More than 12,000 drug users have hepatitis C

Drug use in some countries is increasing the spread of hepatitis C.

More than 12,400 drug users in Ireland are believed to be infected with hepatitis C.

The research team said there could be thousands more undiagnosed cases among recent immigrants to Ireland.

They pointed out that although asylum seekers are routinely offered infectious disease testing, there is no systematic testing for other migrants.
