If you live with multiple sclerosis (MS), you may feel that it’s all you can do to deal with the disease, let alone worry about taking care of yourself in other ways.
But spending some time on self-care activities — which Kathy Costello, vice president of healthcare access for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and a nurse practitioner at the Johns Hopkins MS Center in Baltimore, defines as “wellness-focused behaviors that address physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, occupational, and social domains” — is important, too.
Finding ways to nurture yourself on a regular basis can help prevent stress, burnout, and depression, and opens the door to finding joy and meaning in life.
While everyone’s self-care needs are unique, here are some ways you can go beyond just managing your multiple sclerosis to caring for your body, mind, and spirit.
